ONLINE VIDEO SEMINAR
Light School
Light, Demystified.
A simple seminar to help you see light for your home differently.
Have you ever walked into a room and felt like something is missing - even though the interior design is spot on?
It’s often the lighting.
Lighting affects how your home feels, how you function within it, and with careful consideration can bring you delight every night.
Yet it’s one of the most misunderstood and overlooked parts of home design.
Whether you're planning a renovation, building a new home, or simply want your spaces to feel more comfortable and connected, Light School is the perfect place to begin to gain an understanding of how light works.
What Is Light School?
A 30-minute online seminar for anyone new to lighting design, especially homeowners who are curious about lighting - but don’t know where to start.
Filmed inside MINT’s unique experiential studio, this beginner-friendly presentation is hosted by our founding lighting designer Adele Locke, who brings warmth, clarity, and real-world experience to helping you understand the essentials of light.
Light School covers the following topics
How light informs how we feel
1
How light can completely transform spaces that are otherwise very similar
2
What Glare is – and more importantly how you can control it
3
The natural rhythm of light and how you can choose the colour of your light
4
How your choice of light fitting can impact how your home feels
5
How different a room feels in different colour temperatures of light – to help you decide what will feel right for you
6
How light quality is measured and why it matters
7
CRI (Colour Rendering Index) – what it is and how it affects your home
8
The many different types of light behaviour – there’s so much more to light than downlights!
9
How to use different types of light to craft a layered lighting design
10
Real life demonstrations of different light effects – so you can see and feel the effects
11
What the layers of light are and how you can build them up in your design
12
What functional light is and how to use it
13
How ambient light is created and different ways to create it
14
Crafting joyous light to lift your spirit as the final layer in your lighting design
15
The critical balance of lighting design and how to think about it
16
The all important question to start any lighting design - it’s obvious when you hear it, but it will totally change the way you think about light.
17
You don’t need to know anything about lighting to begin - just a little curiosity and a desire to learn.
This seminar is perfect if:
✓ You don’t want downlights all through your ceiling, but you’re not sure where to start with designing light.
✓ You want to understand what makes light “work” in a home.
✓ You’re building or renovating and want to get lighting right from the start.
✓ You feel overwhelmed by the choices around lighting - and don’t know what to look for.
✓ You’ve never thought much about lighting - but suspect it’s the missing piece in your design.
✓ You want to feel more confident and in control of your home.
Wish your home felt more ‘right’? It could be the lighting.
It’s easy to assume lighting is just about brightness or the style of your pendants and wall lights - but when you experience great lighting - lighting that’s layered, comfortable, and considered - your home feels calmer, more functional, and more you.
Light School helps you recognise what’s not working in your lighting and gives you simple tools to do something about it.
